The TLI41222 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training (Heavy Vehicle) is the latest nationally accredited course required for road transport trainers who will be training individuals or groups in cars, heavy vehicles or motorcycles. This qualification is not for the public to gain a driver’s license.

How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Blended Delivery.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed up to 26 weeks (including holidays).

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend approximately 604 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in TLI41222 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training (Heavy Vehicle) . Among others, you will learn to:

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Observation during on-the-job or role play/simulation (OS)
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview (Q)
  • Third party (TP)
  • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks (SA)

What are the entry requirements?

There are no prerequisites to enter this training program. However, Bright Square Education Group screens students according to the following criteria:

Must be over 21 years old Are living or working in Australia Have successfully completed at least Australian high school year 10, or equivalent Have basic computer skills Have sound Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills

* Have good general health and fitness for practicals Hold a current full (unrestricted) Australian driver’s licence Hold any of the following licences for at least three of the past four years:
MC licence HC licence HR licence MR licence LR licence Must obtain a letter of eligibility from the local RMS

** Bring own vehicle equivalent to the licence held

*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements of the course may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place

What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To support you in your training with Bright Square Pty Ltd, we will provide:

  • TLI41222—Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training (Heavy Vehicle) learning and assessment suite which includes:
    • Learner Guides
    • Assessment Workbooks
    • Templates for Projects and other activities;
    • Simulated resources to provide students with simulated assessment pathways (not applicable to all assessment tasks specially those to be done during vocation placement)
  • Additional course readings and resources recommended by trainers.

    • Safety equipment such as vests, hard hats, safety glasses and hearing protection
    • Vehicle maintenance tools and equipment, including tire pressure gauges, torque wrenches, and vehicle diagnostic tools
    • Training aids such as driver training cones, lane markers and vehicle manoeuvring guides
    • First aid kits and emergency response equipment for on-road training scenarios
  • Applicable documentation, including legislation, regulations, codes of practice, workplace procedures and operation manuals, which may include but are not limited to:
    • Road Transport Act 2013
    • Road Transport (Driver Licencing) Regulation 2017
    • Heavy Vehicle National Law
    • Code of Practice: Heavy Vehicle Driver Fatigue Management
    • Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety in the Road Freight Transport Industry
    • NSW Road Users’ Handbook
    • NSW Heavy Vehicle Driver Handbook
    • Relevant workplace procedures and operation manuals on:
      • vehicle operation, maintenance and safety
      • operation manuals detailing manufacturer specifications and safety features of vehicle models
      • training manuals containing instructional materials, assessment criteria and procedural guidelines

Students to provide access to:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • internet access preferably through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Vehicle representative of the licence class held (should meet state/territory requirements)

Bright Square Pty Ltd has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist Learners to progress faster through a unit of competency or allow the student full credit.
